Installation

GitLab.com

Connect MergeMe to gitlab.com via OAuth. Webhooks are registered on your projects automatically - no manual configuration needed.

Prerequisites

  • A MergeMe account (sign in at mergeme.dev with Google)
  • Maintainer or Owner access on the GitLab projects you want to track
  • A Slack workspace where notifications should appear

Setup

Create a workspace and choose GitLab.com

On first sign-in you'll be guided through onboarding. When asked to select a provider, choose GitLab.com.

Connect Slack

Open the Slack tab and click Connect Slack. Authorise the MergeMe bot in your Slack workspace.

Connect GitLab

Open the GitLab tab and click Connect GitLab. You'll be redirected to gitlab.com to authorise MergeMe.

MergeMe requests the api scope - this is required to register and manage webhooks on your projects. No narrower scope covers webhook management.

Add channel mappings

Open Channel Mappings. Select a GitLab project from the dropdown (populated automatically from your OAuth token), then pick a Slack channel and save.

MergeMe immediately registers a webhook on that GitLab project. Repeat for each project you want to track.

Map users (optional)

Open User Mappings. For each GitLab username, select the corresponding Slack user. When someone is @-mentioned in a GitLab comment, MergeMe will @-mention them in Slack.

What MergeMe handles automatically

  • Webhook registration on each GitLab project you map
  • Token refresh - GitLab OAuth tokens are refreshed transparently before they expire
  • Webhook cleanup - when you remove a channel mapping, the corresponding GitLab webhook is deleted
